The increasing demand of Electric Vehicle, Hybrid Electric Vehicle and Plugin Hybrid Electric Vehicle from automotive industry is leading research towards higher power density and more efficient electric drives. Since, automotive drive features several Electrical Machines and Power Conversion Systems, Power Electronics represents a key enabling technology to achieve higher efficiency and power density drivetrains. In this scenario, the MIMED project aims to design, construct and test a novel MMC structure specific for low voltage high-speed drives. In fact, by assisting MMC with additional power links, it is feasible to apply this topology to low voltage, variable frequency drives. An alternative to this topology is also proposed, where the power link is created between the series connected submodules.
